BMW EVs gain access to Tesla Superchargers in North America, expanding the charging network for BMW drivers. This integration adds more than 25,000 high-power charging points to the BMW Charging Network and is accessible in two ways: via CCS–NACS adapters or Tesla’s Magic Dock sites. Billing is streamlined through Shell Recharge in the My BMW app.
Key update: BMW is broadening charging compatibility in the United States by enabling use of Tesla’s Supercharger network. Beginning today, BMW owners can visit over 2,000 Tesla locations and more than 25,000 individual Superchargers. This move aligns with the industry-wide shift toward the North American Charging Standard (NACS) and complements BMW’s existing network partnerships.
With Superchargers now part of the mix, BMWs provide access to roughly 180,000 public charging points across North America, including networks such as IONITY, Electrify America, ChargePoint, and EVgo. All supported stations are visible in the vehicle’s navigation system and in the My BMW app via Shell Recharge. If the charging site supports it, sessions can be initiated automatically using Plug & Charge.
There are two ways for BMW EVs to charge at Tesla locations:
- At Superchargers that use only NACS, current BMW models (i4, i5, i7, iX) must use a CCS–NACS DC adapter. BMW-approved adapters will be sold as official accessories starting in Q2 2026.
- At Superchargers equipped with Tesla’s Magic Dock, a built-in adapter enables charging without extra hardware, allowing older models like the i3 to access the network.
BMW also previously announced that native NACS ports will be integrated into new vehicles beginning in 2026, starting with the i5 M60 and followed by additional models, including the next-generation iX3.
Plug & Charge is now supported at Tesla Superchargers for compatible BMW vehicles. Pricing follows Tesla’s standard rate for non-Tesla vehicles, with billing routed through the driver’s Shell Recharge account in the My BMW app. To enable this, drivers must ensure Plug & Charge is activated in the vehicle and that the necessary charging contracts are in place.
