A bold shift begins this week as softball takes the spotlight, expanding the SEA Games in Bangkok with a full slate of Men’s and Women’s competitions. After the baseball events wrap up on Friday, the Her Majesty Queen Sirikit 60th Birthday Anniversary Stadium is being refurbished into a premier softball venue, ready to host nine national teams from December 15 to 19. The Baseball5 showdown concludes the weekend, setting the stage for the two softball tournaments to crown champions.
The men’s softball field features a diverse lineup: No. 11 Singapore, No. 19 Philippines, No. 27 Thailand, and No. 29 Malaysia. Singapore returns as the defending champions, thanks to their historic first SEA Games gold in 2019, the last time men’s softball was held at the Games. The Philippines earned silver in 2019, while Indonesia took bronze.

The women’s field brings in No. 16 Philippines, No. 25 Singapore, No. 48 Thailand, No. 56 Malaysia, and a returning Indonesia, which will re-enter WBSC Women’s Softball World Rankings after a two-year absence. The Philippines aim to defend their 2019 title, while Indonesia and Malaysia look to build on silver and bronze performances from the previous edition.

Both tournaments use a single round-robin format, with the top two teams advancing to the Gold Medal Game. The teams finishing third and fourth will compete in the bronze-medal match. Medal games are set for December 19.
With Baseball and Baseball5 completed, these two softball events close out a historic WBSC treble at SEA Games—the first time four WBSC disciplines have been featured together at a multi-sport event since the 2015 Pan American Games in Toronto.
The SEA Games bring together the National Olympic Committees of 11 Southeast Asian nations: Brunei, Cambodia, Indonesia, Laos, Malaysia, Myanmar, Philippines, Singapore, Thailand, Timor-Leste, and Vietnam.
