The American Dream is a captivating journey that unfolds in the upcoming film, 'Clika'. This feature film, produced by Wilbraham native Sean McBride, is set to hit theaters nationwide on January 23. It tells the story of Chito, a Mexican-American migrant worker who toils in the fields, picking fruit. But Chito's life takes an unexpected turn when a viral video of his musical talent propels him into the spotlight. The film, a 'rags to riches' tale, showcases Chito's rise from humble beginnings to achieving the American dream. McBride, a co-writer and co-producer, collaborated closely with music producer Jimmy Humilde, whose production company, Rancho Humilde, has previously showcased Mexican artists like Fuerza Regida and Natanael Cano. Humilde recognized the lack of Mexican representation in the movie industry and aimed to change that with 'Clika'. The film's creative process involved McBride and his writing partner, Michael Greene, working with Humilde to ensure an authentic portrayal of Mexican culture. McBride, a Minnechaug Regional High School graduate, reflects on his early memories of learning about cultural diversity in Wilbraham's Mile Tree Elementary School. He hopes that 'Clika' will offer a unique perspective on the struggles and aspirations of migrant workers, challenging the notion that they aren't contributing to the American way.
